New Fleet ! The Lithuanian Navy

The roots of the Lithuanian Navy went back to the earliest Medieval sea faring companies in the Baltic Sea, and the 17th Century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was recreated after WWI, officially re-established On 1 August 1935, but forcibly integrated in the Soviet Navy in 1939 with the country’s occupation. It was reborn again from 4 July 1992 and soon gained a far larger scope. Its two first acquisitions were two Grisha class missile Frigates, operated until the 2000s, but also the Lindau-class minehunters, Storm-class patrol boats, support ships and cutters. New purchases were made in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and today the fleet comprises 14 vessels, making it a coastal navy focus on mine warfare and a constant actor of BALTOPS each year for NATO. It is now on the frontline since the invasion of 2022 with more acquisitions voted for 2025.
