New fleet ! FRY Navy and Serbia-Montenegrin riverine/naval Forces

The Montenegrin Navy and Serbian riverine flotilla were the result of the Yugoslavian breakup in the wake of the fall of USSR and after a decade of issues following the death of Tito (1980). This happened in 25 June 1991 to 27 April 1992. In 1990, the former communists lost power to ethnic separatist parties in the first multi-party elections across the country, except in Montenegro and Serbia. S. Milošević and his allies there won, but the situation was tense due to the rhetoric on all sides. What became a federation (FRY) or Federal Republic of Yugoslavia had indeed naval assets inherited from the sizeable Yugoslavian fleet, but budget and geographical constrains capped these. After the dissolution of the “State Union of Serbia and Montenegro” (2003–2006), Serbia cutoff from the Adriatic was limited to a riverine force on the Danube, Sava, and Tisa rivers (so a brown water navy), whereas Montenegro which inherited a limited southern Adriatic coastline, south of the Croatian one, north of Albania, is limited to the Bar, Pero Ćetković and Pristan Naval bases, oparting a modest green water navy of OPVs.
