The Belgian Navy or “Marinecomponent”. The Belgian Navy always had been a modest naval force, but it reached in the cold war it’s greatest extent, thanks to the 30-year boom period. Its deep integration with NATO was capital in shaping the Navy, as the country hosted SHAPE in Casteaux, Mons, and administrative siege in Brussels (formerly in London 1949–1952, then Paris 1952-67), meant Belgium had the responsibility area of a corner of the channel and north sea and the task of mine warfare. In this rewrite and expansion of this 2021 page, we will also see the modern Belgian fleet (1990-2025) and plans for the future, as well as its organization, assets and bases.
